Initiative – EBSI-Compatible Network

4 June 2026

Versione italiana

With the European Blockchain Service Infrastructure entering production, a concrete opportunity arises to build decentralised, reliable, and interoperable digital infrastructures at the service of citizens, businesses, and public administrations.

The Italian Blockchain Association (Associazione Blockchain Italia) is launching in Italy a national initiative:

the creation of a parallel network based on the open-source code released by EBSI, designed as an open space across every sector for learning, collaboration, experimentation, and the production deployment of concrete use cases.

We are looking for companies, public bodies, universities, researchers, IT specialists, and professionals from every field (such as lawyers, governance specialists, economists, sociologists, and others) interested in contributing to the implementation of this initiative, expanding our current network of nodes within the Association.

This initiative is not affiliated or connected in any way with EBSI, EUROPEUM-EDIC, EBP, or the European Commission.

Why is this initiative needed?

To date, the experimentation and production deployment of solutions using the EBSI network is restricted to a limited selection of use cases. Our initiative aims to be an open space across every sector, both public and private:

  • to share knowledge on topics related to the operation, management, and evolution of EBSI-compliant networks, blockchain technologies, and related areas such as DIDs, Verifiable Credentials and eIDAS;
  • to set up an extended staging network dedicated to learning, collaboration, and experimentation, and subsequently deploy a production network for real-world applications;
  • to actively develop and experiment with new ideas based on the novel governance models enabled by these technologies;
  • to take part in the Association’s interdisciplinary study and working groups, made up of experts and professionals from various fields (technical, legal, economic, anthropological, and others);
  • to build a fertile, open, and dynamic ecosystem of actors working on topics connected to the initiative;
  • to spark a national debate and raise awareness among individuals and institutions about the practical applicability of these technologies;

all through lean governance and decisions shared among participants.

Roadmap

The initiative will follow this path:

  • expression of interest; preliminary assessment of potential participation in the initiative;
  • initiative presentation; promotion of the initiative, introduction to the initial collaborative approach and Q&A sessions;
  • official enrolment; phase dedicated to consolidating the initiative;
  • kick-off; first meeting dedicated to introducing participants, defining initial objectives and establishing initial coordination;
  • recurring 30–60 minute meetings; iterative phase involving knowledge-sharing sessions, decision-making meetings, and operational meetings;
